KidsFirst to Host Russian New Year's Party
It's already time to celebrate New Year's Day again in Indianapolis.

On Sunday, the Indy-based KidsFirst will host a traditional Russian New Year party for kids 10 and under. The free event will start at 11 a.m. at the Embassy Suites near Michigan Road and I-465.

This authentic party will include an appearance from Father Frost and his helper, Snegurochka. There will also be a festive New Year Tree known as a "yolochka."

New Year's Day is the biggest holiday in Russia and this party will give Indianapolis residents the unique opportunity to see how other kids ring in the New Year. The children will participate in the tradition of calling for Father Frost to appear. Then, they will receive holiday bags with Russian candy and share a song, riddle, dance or other talent act with Father Frost.

Awards will be given for the best acts. The Russian Ballet Academy will also perform.

Currently, more than one million children live in orphanages in the former Soviet Union. Only about 15,000 are adopted each year.
The KidsFirst Foundation has already made a difference in the lives of many children and families.
